Speaking to Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata, Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada has confirmed that Tekken 3D Prime Edition’s online multiplayer modes will only be playable in 2D, and that achieving a 60-frames-per-second refresh rate was crucial.

“What we were most particular about in terms of technology was, ‘We have to retain 60 frames per second (FPS) at all costs.’ If someone says, ‘It lags when it’s made 3D,’ then you get the impression that that’s the kind of game Tekken is, so right from the beginning that was a condition that I wasn’t willing to budge on,” said Harada.

The games single player mode will support full 60FPS in both 2D and 3D. It’s worth noting that by comparison, both Super Street Fighter IV 3D and Dead or Alive: Dimensions flick down to 30fps in 3D mode.
