Not to sound like an old man or anything, but gaming sure has changed since I was a kid. Graphics have evolved to the point where characters can emote by their facial expressions alone. Some claim the Uncanny Valley, the threshold where graphics have become too real, has been surpassed. Games are now boasting huge original scores that can stand right next to any other medium, while video game voice acting, once regarded as the red headed stepchild of voice work, has reached a level comparable to its Hollywood counterpart. Stories are being told that have as much nuance and emotional impact as any book. I don’t think your alone on this at all. I absolutely hate the idea of day one DLC; and what’s worse is the idea of preorder/store specific DLC and bonuses.
Rewarding players who purchase their game from certain stores, then charging everyone else!?
It’s a rocky path game publishers and developers are on, and I for one hope they don’t screw this up.
We’ll be covering DLC an awful lot in an up-and-coming Podcast, it would have been this weeks show… but well, then Sony “dropped the ball”.
