If morals and lawsuits didn’t prevent Gamestop from trading in whatever you’d like, there’s no doubt they would. Today marks their first step into that beautiful and terrifying dream by accepting Apple devices, specifically iPod nanos, shuffles, minis, touches, and iPhones, or iPads for in-store credit.
Depending on the condition, capacity, and service provider your device is attached to, you’ll get a certain amount of credit. For example a AT&T 3G 32GB iPad 2 will grant you with $300 worth of whatever it is that Gamestop has agreed to sell to you at this point. Eventually these pre-owned Apple products will be available for you to purchase. It looks like most stores are participating in this new offer, but it wouldn’t hurt to check if your local one is too on Gamestop’s website.
In addition to entering the tablet market with the iPad, Gamestop has begun selling other brands on their site. Currently, you can purchase tablets from Asus, Acer and Viewsonic.
Gamestop president Tony Bartel told Gamesindustry.biz that a Gamestop-branded tablet, capable of streaming games via Spawn Labs’ technology, is currently in testing, and supposedly going to release next year. The tablet will run Android, with no explanation on pricing or any kind of technical specifications whatsoever.
