Has Paradox Interactive Finally Broken Into The Mainstream Market With Pirates of Black Cove?
I have to say, Paradox Interactive is probably one of, if not, my favorite developer if only because they cater to the niche crowd. What do I mean by that? Let’s look at a roster of the better games that they have published. Hearts of Iron (and other similar big-picture strategy games), Achtung Panzer!, East India Company, Cities in Motion and Mount and Blade. Casual gamers probably haven’t heard of these games and they aren’t exactly famous within the avid gamer circles either. But each game, even if lacking polish at times, are definitely extremely enjoyable if you like the ideas of cleaving yourself through medieval armies or building an effective public transit system. PoBC is not much different (as shown by how it lacks even a Wikipedia page).
Sure, you can argue that it’s pretty clear where they got the ideas from. The successful Pirates of the Caribbean films and the template that Sid Meier’s Pirates!
