It wasn’t that long ago that we heard a report that Microsoft was readying partnerships like Comcast and Verizon for a “Live TV” service on Xbox Live. A Bloomberg report today from “people with knowledge of the situation” agrees, noting the deals are in the process of closing, and more partnerships to come.
Microsoft “expects to sign deals with Time Warner Inc. (TWX)’s HBO cable channel, Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Crackle streaming service, NBC Universal’s Bravo and Syfy channels and Lovefilm UK, a subsidiary of Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN),” one of the sources told Bloomberg.
HBO came out early August revealing that console versions of their popular streaming application HBO Go are in the works.
Rumors of an iPTV (internet Protocol television) service for the Xbox 360 have been around for a while now, especially since the technology was unveiled during CES 2007. Microsoft has probably been spending most of their time trying to lock in contracts with high-profile service providers since the whisperings started making the rounds.
